After using a rapid review source to revisit topics I knew I was deficient in I started with question banks (Kaplan then Uworld) reading each explanation fully. Notice my emphasis on READ EACH EXPLANATION FULLY- regardless of whether you got the question right or wrong. This is time consuming but the STEP exam is about tying it all together, not simply getting specific questions correct. Reading the answers and explanations is how I was able to do this.
I used FA as a reference when I needed to look up something specific. If I was consistently missing questions on a particular topic I would read that section and annotate with explanations from Uworld. I struggled to read First Aid cover to cover- some may be able to do this but for me it was a waste of time.
Dr Jamal's Notes work as a rapid review for about two weeks out form your exam. If you have time read these notes before starting your question banks and you will see how well they match up.
I think best is to read first aid step 1. Then you can watch videos for subjects that you are weak at. Then you should work hard by solving as much question banks as possible. Also, reading high yield notes saves time too
